I hope you enjoy this cute story. I've been trying to use positive
reinforcement with our 3 year old triplets. Whenever they do something
exceptional, I reward them with a "gold star". They love the idea and
now, every time they obey, they ask if they will get a gold star.
A few weeks ago, our little boy was being difficult so I told him that
he would have to listen or he would lose a gold star. Unfortunately for
him, he did not listen. I took him with me to take down his star and he
was crushed. Needless to say, my heart was breaking, but I had to stick
to my word. To add to my difficulty, his 2 sisters now joined him,
begging me not to take his "gold star". Now I was really backed into a
corner. As I reached for the star, he melted off my lap and on to the
floor, crying.
The 2 girls ran off into the nursery, grabbing their blankets, binkies
and play cell phone. About 30 seconds after they left, Chloe came
running back to me, absolutely sobbing. I asked her what was wrong.
"Daddy, I miss you when you're in jail," she said. I asked her what she
was talking about.
She explained through her tears, "Lauren call the police on her phone
and they put you in jail because you take Josh's "gold star"."
